CAMBC Beginner Group Rides
CAMBC Beginner Rides are here!
This is an opportunity for those new to mountain biking to improve their
mountain biking skills, meet other Charlottesville area riders, and learn a few
basic bike maintenance techniques.
CAMBC beginner rides are geared towards those who are relatively new to
mountain biking. Our ride leaders will provide a comfortable, easy-paced
environment for the beginning rider to practice trail riding. Ride leaders
guide riders on a 60-90 minute ride and will be available to answer rider
questions and offer riding advice. However, no formal instruction will be
given. Ride leaders will also provide tips for simple problems like checking
tire pressure, fixing flat tires, repairing a broken chain enough to get back
to civilization, and other common bike-related problems.
All riders are required to wear a helmet, bring plenty of water, and bring a
trail-ready bike. Close-fitting clothing that will not get caught up in the
bike's drive train is also adviseable.
All riders ride at their own risk and are responsible for deciding when to
dismount for sections of trail which are too difficult for them to attempt.
In case of a large rider turn out, riders will be divided into smaller groups
according to level of experience so that everyone can have a good time no
matter what your skill level.
No rider will be left behind, a CAMBC promise!
Please check CAMBC's ride calendar for times and locations.

Random Tips
-
For first time riders, the best place to give mountain biking a try is
Walnut Creek Park
south of Charlottesville. The trail "the blue wheel"
(a.k.a. the "dam loop") is probably the easiest trail and best place to start.
Otherwise, look for the green circle trails on the trail map.
- Always wear a helmet!
- Don't be afraid to walk! Even the most skilled mountain bikers get off
and walk at one point or another.
- If you see something you don't want to hit (rock, stump, etc.) DO NOT look
at it! Rather, look where you want to go. Trust your peripheral vision.
Staring at an obstacle is a sure way to hit it!
- Always remember the IMBA Rules of the Trail!
- Ride on open trails only.
- Leave no trace.
- Control your bicycle!
- Always yield trail.
- Never scare animals.
- Plan ahead.
